I was out in the front yard pruning roses and raking up the recently pulled weeds, and my neighbor across the street was working on one of her many wood projects. Her little girls were playing outside, and as they spotted me they came over and asked if I’d like to come over and play with their mom. They were so cute, and I thought, well yes! I would like to come over and play with their mom. I walked over, and I told her that I had been asked to come over and play. She and I both laughed. We had a good visit and talked about our projects.
As I walked back to my house, I thought about the fact that unless I am asleep I am always doing something. Reading is my play, but to just stop and have a moment of enjoyment for absolutely no good reason?! Well, that is a different story. I am not the only one out there. I know there are others that just can’t stop unless they are asleep.
So think about how to just stop for a moment and relax. I’ve decided that once in the morning and in the early evening, I will just stop. I will sit in my rocker out on the porch, since it is summer time, and just look around. I won’t talk on the phone, read, or anything. I will just pause and look around. One thing I noticed is that are a ton of little birds flying all over in my trees, and it is not all sweetness and light with them! They have some fairly big squabbles, and the whole group gets into it. I think if they spoke English I would hear some rotten words here and there, if you know what I mean.
So, come with me! Join me on the porch. Take a pause, listen, and observe. Take a deep breath and enjoy!
